East of England Show 2003
On Sunday June 15th 2003, our Brass Ensemble and Jazz Band were invited to perform at the East of England Show, near Peterborough. We were expecting to perform in the small bandstand near the main arena as before, but little did we know what was in store! The old bandstand has gone, and has been replaced with a massive pop-concert style stage, facing a sea of deckchairs! The stage was complete with lighting, and a huge sound system! It was with some trepidation that we waited for the previous band to finish, then set about setting up the music stands and chairs, and preparing the music. Mr Turnbull took the microphone and announced us to much applause (the sound system was so powerful I'm sure he could have been heard back in Kettering!), and we launched into our first number. The surroundings and sound system took a bit of getting used to, (the wind insisted on removing our music!) but we soon found our feet and rose to the occasion. We had a fantastic time and (Mr Turnbull says) we played really well. We had two 30 minute slots, and second time around was even better than the first!
Here are a few pictures of the event. More will follow as more pictures are developed - if you have any that you would like to see here, have a word with Mr Stephenson on the admin desk, and we will try to fit as many in as we can.
