East of England Show 2004

June 20th 2004 saw us back at the East of England Show. Senior Jazz, Senior Windband and Senior Woodwind were invited to play, and each had two slots. The first slot was on the main stage - a huge affair of the "pop concert" style, and the second - almost immediately afterwards - was held in a much more informal setting outside the tea tent! On the main stage, there were lots of mics, so we were able to sound like a really big band, which was great as we were a long way from the audience. Mr Turnbull cracked a few jokes about fathers' day while we were getting ready, but the groans from the audience hurried us up! Mr Turnbull & Mrs Muller said we played really well - the applause we got confirmed this. For the second, there was no amplification, but against the rattle of teacups we put on a great show. The bandstand here was very small - only room for about six players, so some of us had to overflow onto the grass. Again, everybody really appreciated our playing, and the atmosphere was great. Although there was a lot of rain about, we were very lucky not getting any - we would have got very wet indeed at the tea tent. Maybe we could have moved inside..........?

Here are a few pictures of our day.

Mr T with his "Fathers' Day" routine

Almost ready to go.....

.........straight into "Perdido"!

Even Mr T is dwarfed by the size of the stage!

We now slow things down with "Easy Rider"

The Tea Tent "Bandstand"!

Just enough room for Senior Woodwind!

Now we are Senior Windband, we are overflowing!

Yes, we did have a drummer for both venues!

An enchanted audience
