Junk Samba Day - May 2005
|
|
|
On Saturday at the beginning of half term, our
Centre held a Junk Samba Day. Most of us had never been involved with
Samba before, so we were all very interested to see what was involved. Mr
Tim Green, the percussion specialist from County came along to lead it. We
were asked to bring in anything that would make a noise when bashed with a
stick, shaken, rattled or scraped! Mr Green brought some large samba
drums, and we brought the rest! There were plastic bottles containing
sand, pieces of wood and sticks, saucepans with metal spoons, a teatray,
wood blocks, metal bowls, plastic buckets, sweet tins, cardboard and
plastic tubes, and lots of other things too numerous to mention! One chap
even brought a pair of large metal dustbin lids - what a fantastic noise
they made! Mr Green taught us some simple samba rhythms, and in a very
short time had us sounding like a Latin American Carnival! We had a
wonderful morning, and want to know when the next one is! During the morning, a recording was made of our samba - click here to hear a clip of us playing all those wacky instruments! |
