Sting Fling - Derngate Theatre, April 2004.

On March 28th Kettering Centre String players along with string players from the other centres in Northamptonshire took part in the first ever String Fling at the Derngate Theatre.

We arrived at 10:15 to rehearse our centre pieces then waited to rehearse the mass piece to be played by all the centres together.

This was a piece called the Hurdy Gurdy composed especially for us by Richard Leigh a member of the County peri team.

After rehearsing for about an hour we set about getting ourselves ready for the concert, which happened at 2pm .

Our Kettering string players performed their 2 pieces Fairy Dance and Sword Dance fantastically with great enthusiasm with good tuning and quality of sound.

We then performed the Hurdy Gurdy  which was a real success for both performers and audience.

The concert finished at about 3:45 and we all went home feeling tired but with a feeling of exhilaration and satisfaction.

Thank you to all the students for their wonderful playing their patience and their fantastic behaviour you were all a credit to the Kettering Centre.

Thank you also to the staff Chris Hilts, Sarah Brocklesby and Katie Summerfield for their help and input on the day, and a special thank you to all the parents who came along to help supervise the children in their breaks and get them from A to B and back again, we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you.

Here are a few pictures we took on the day.
